[Knock knock Jean guess who.]

[Jean had just sat down to breakfast when he hears a sharp knock at the door. With a grumble and a mournful glance at his plate as he pushes back his chair, he'll go to the door with a half-chewed bite of toast in his mouth. He isn't sure who he should expect when he pulls the door open, but Levi is somewhere toward the bottom of the list, on account of him not even being here as far as Jean knew.]

Captain Levi...! [He snaps together a salute. ...And hopes he just imagined those flecks of spittle and toast crumbs flying out of his mouth. Um.] When did you get back?

[There's a slight twitch in his lip as a couple of those crumbs land on his jacket, which he brushes off without a word before focusing on Jean again.]

Erwin and I returned during the shift. I wanted to check in with you and find out if you have anything to report since we were last here.

[or, even more interestingly, if Jean has new memories as well.]

[He finishes chewing and roughly swallows in the time it takes Levi to speak. So the Commander is here too; they'd arrived together, disappeared together, and returned together. He doesn't pretend to understand the whims of this world.]

What a time to come back. [All things considered, there could be worse things to come back to. It had been an existence of simple worries, a strain of life he'd never imagined for himself, and one he'd never have anyway. But if they'd been thrown into the middle of that shift, then they've already been here for nearly two weeks. He wonders why neither contacted him until now, but he tells himself they must have their reasons.]

...Please come in. [His voice is stiff with formality as he relaxes from the salute to step aside, allowing room for Levi to pass through the door.]

You're telling me.

[Levi steps in, taking a look around. Jean seems to be alone, now, although that didn't stop the place from being messy enough to make Levi visibly twitch. He can't help but comment on it.]

This place is a sty.

[But that's not why he's here, so he does his best to ignore the clutter and turns his attention back to Jean.]

I want you to tell me about anything significant that happened while Erwin and I were gone, starting with if anyone else from our world besides the three of us remains.

[he's fairly certain that it is just the three of them now, but there's no harm in being absolutely sure.]

[The apartment may not be up to Levi's standards - with books and papers scattered over the desk further in, his uniform jacket draped over the arm of the couch, and stray crumbs left behind on the table - but to be fair it's not bad for a teenage boy left to his own devices. He'll swallow his pride, though, and take the criticism with nothing more than a look that hovers between nervous and indignant, because more important matters wait to be discussed.]

Everyone else who was here went back. [He gets that out of the way first, his voice falling short of stone cold. Then he gestures to one of the open chairs around the table.]

Have a seat...if you want, sir. A lot has happened. [He'll wait to see if Levi sits before he pulls up a chair himself.]

[Levi would have more words for Jean if it was a space that he also had to inhabit, but since it isn't and those other things are more important, he doesn't say anything else.

His expression darkens slightly when Jean confirms everyone else has left; no more Farlan, no more Petra. He isn't sure if he's happy about that or not.

Levi sits, crossing one leg over the other and his arms over his chest.]

Just give me the highlights, and if there's been any significant change to this place that Erwin should be aware of.

[He isn't well-versed enough in Levi's nuances of expression to read the impact the news has on him, but he knows his words must hold some weight, because he had felt that weight himself. He nods before he sits too, his back straighter than what his usual relaxed posture entails, his hands resting on his knees.]

I volunteered to go on a mission to Zompania with others from the village, some time after the battle was over. It was our duty to destroy what was left of the city and bury the dead as best as we could. [He strains to focus on the sterilized report he's giving, and not the memories submerged behind the words.]

There was another mission at the same time, to the enclosure called Pagoda. People helped the refugees there and rebuilt the town...since the Cultists came through and tore up the place. [A pause, as he remembers something.] I don't know what ever happened to the other enclosure they invaded. We were never told.

Wiped out, probably, if they didn't need to send anyone there.

[blunt, but that's the only answer Levi could come up with, unless the opposite were true and they had been so successful that they didn't need help. Somehow, though, that seems less likely.]

Was there anything noteworthy about Pagoda itself?

[He gives a slight nod in response to Levi's speculation, uncomfortable with acknowledging that annihilation was the most likely fate of that enclosure and the people living there. But he's not an optimist by nature - it's hard to see any lighter outcome.]

I don't know too much about what happened in Pagoda...Ginia went there, so she would be able to tell you more. In Zompania...Specialist Davis, who was leading the Malnosso's forces, was recovered. His body was taken back here to Luceti.
